I remember when Cübik came out I hadn't hear anything quite like it, the stabbing heaviness, the arrangement, the crazy guitar interludes. For me it was kind of a game changer when those stabs come in at the start it was like saying a big "fuck you to the 80ies you are done goodbye, next" however I don't really remember many trying to mimic it either. Bit of a stand alone track for me personally.

Cubik was absolutely hammered at the Stone Roses gig at Spike Island in May 1990. 808 state were there along with Frankie Bones and played records, but didn't do a DJ set. They must have played cubik a good ten or twelve times throughout the course of the day. Cubik is also infamous for being played by Greater Manchester Police in an attempt to unsettle the rioters who staged a four week long rooftop protest at Strangeways prison in April 1990. It had the opposite affect and the protesters could be seen dancing on the roof.
