While the panpipes do kinda remind you of New Age (Steven Segal sitting cross-legged with incense candles glued to his shoulders etc), they definitely don't detract from this classic release.

In fact, they kinda make the tracks what they are. Very classy Progressive in structure, with infusions of Italodance & Trance over the four tracks.

In Nomine Patris (Ataros Version) is the most Italodance sounding of them, with a definite Datura vibe.

In Nomine Patris (Atatec Version) has a more subdued feeling with more emphasis on Progressive House of the period.

But for me, it's always been about Anathema.

The Atatres version has a deep, rolling bassline and the panpipe main riff is instantly memorable. The "In nomine Patris et fillii et Spiritus Sancti" sample could sound cheesy, but it actually works alongside in the production.

The Atasanctis version is my favourite of the four. Pretty much a Trance take on the sound, but still with all the Progressive flavour.

Of course this was back when DJ's played Trance & Progressive House in the same sets, with the same respect!

That all changed by the end of the millennium, with DJ's taking sides.

Zehaffy

Solid 93 Italian trance from local legends, I seem to remember Anathema getting played more than In Nominee Patris. Sounds fairly/slightly (depending on where you sit) dated now with the pan pipe stabs etc but for those who were there it holds nice memories.
