<I>The Everlasting Blink</I>, Bent’s second album, doesn’t have the immediacy of <I>Programmed to Love</I> but instead takes time to grow on you. Indeed, the standout songs on this album are every bit as good as anything as Bent has ever done. The twang of “So Long Without You” lends itself to a funky country-Western swing dance that brings tears to your eyes. “Magic Love” shows that the Captain and Tenille weren’t all that bad. And the steel guitar on “Moonbeams” might just be the cheapest trip to Hawaii you’ve ever taken. A few tracks are lackluster, such as “Beautiful Otherness,” but the strength of the other songs are more than enough to make up for any shortcomings.
