We're on a run of oddly mainstream choices for record of the month, but I can't complain at all about this one. I have always loved this album, so I'll take a new fresh copy to listen to. This is top 25 favorite all-time rap albums material for me.

Little bits of vocal distortion here and there on my copy, but overall a very well done pressing. The wax is gorgeous. The sleeves fit in the jacket again, so hopefully that issue is behind VMP!

Tar

A very special package that presents a very special moment within both rap music as well as within hip-hop as a whole. The Clipse mastered the art of street-rap with Malice and Pusha operating on an almost telepathic level that only the best rap groups can accomplish. This was married to production that would bang in the club and out the whip but also make the average hipster take note due to the sheer weirdness of the beats. This combined with a commercial appeal that was borderline essential for a major-label release at this point in time resulted in an album that could only exist in one particular moment in our history. This release sounds fantastic, the 45rpm affords the neptunes' idiosyncratic production the blunt-force impact it needs to shake your speakers apart and makes Pusha T's beady-eyed observations and wry humour as well as Malice's soul-bearing confessionals seem all the more visceral and essential within the hip-hop canon. Whilst this record isn't the same as it blasting out of a 2002 Benz wagon with rims the size of hula-hoops and 3 metric tonnes of amps and speaker stuffed into the chassis its about as close as you're liable to get in 2018.
