Damian Schwartz's debut, PARTY LOVERS, might sound like it's going to be a barn-burner, but as it opens with the whirring "Get Into," you sense that there's something else at play here. "Dos Días Después," despite its steady beat, stays low to the ground, while the slippery melody of "Lo Que Sube, Baja" contrasts the more tribal rhythm. A soul sample on "In The Mood" starts to raise the energy, and the jaunty piano of "Carolina's Favourite" adds nice minor-key touch. Acid slinks its way underneath the looped vocal samples and strings of "Continuamente," while a funk bass undergirds the moody "Órdenes De Arriba." "Were You There?" brings on a whirling feel, bringing an end to this solid and understated album.
