Words like "grim" and "cold" may seem cliché, but do in fact accurately describe the sounds of "Attics and Catacombs". Songs such as "Born in the Basement" offer a bit more than blasting mayhem (but there is plenty of that as well), the band departing from the standard BM minor note harmonizing to bring brief pace changeups and minor arrangement detours. Some twisted soloing and galloping rhythmic segments make tracks like "Horrid Places" ones that turn the head as well.
