Such a shame no one can get this wonderful record down onto a decent bit of vinyl. The Bong Load edition is streets ahead of Plain and UMC but... why press it onto swirly coloured vinyl.My copy has a very annoying crackle in the right channel that no amount of antiskate tinkering can eradicate.Shame.

I would love this mastering on a piece of high quality black vinyl. Marbled vinyl almost always has some kind of issue.

My pressing is good. I purchased all of the Bong Load recent pressings and have experienced no issues outside slight imperfections that I can find in 95% of every record I own.

What is it about this album, it's completely cursed by half-assed pressings. The Plain ones were a dog. The new Universal ones are from the Plain plates. The newish Bong Load one sounds great but has some horrible non-fill issues to contend with. Can someone just make a decent, quiet pressing. Please?

I did eventually manage to source a much better copy, but it was still far from silent. Such a shame.

Sadly my purchase was from across the Atlantic, so I had no reasonable way to exchange it. You're right, it DOES sound amazing in terms of the actual music, but would it kill Bong Load to make a silent pressing? They charge enough for it. I buy vinyl every week, and the vast majority of pressings are quiet — as they should be.

Seriously, if you've got a duff copy of this pressing, exchange it. This is the one and it's breathtaking. The noise problems don't affect every disc and the mastering is exemplary. It's hard to imagine how this version could sound any better - it's just a shame some copies are plagued by non-fill.

Its greed from record companies. Put Universal at the top of that list...they really couldn't care less about their vinyl product! This could quite easily have been pressed at RTI for its cost. I take it that Memphis Record Pressing would be one of the cheapest options for this pressing, hence the no-fill issues....

This pressing, to me, has been revelatory. I have listened to this on CD front to back for years and years and have never heard the depth or acoustic vibrancy that is present here. Granted, I returned my first copy due to a very small pressing dimple at the beginning of "Everybody Cares.." only to have it appear once more on the replacement, but a few seconds of low bass tick is nothing compared to the transparency of the album. It was too good to keep fussing with my local about such a small defect.The pianos and keys, especially, have been lifted up into the foreground of most songs, in a very, very good way. Same with vocal harmonies. Even the lyrical annunciation seems to be improved. Surface noise? Yeah, a little bit..but I would gladly pick a little noise behind dynamic reproduction over a flat, lifeless soundstage that happens to also be silent. YMMV. Maybe there were bigger duds than mine, but if you really love this album then I'd say it's worth chancing it. If this was, in fact, sourced from hi-res, then consider me converted!..at least until a legitimate, respectable analog pressing [finally] exists.

Unfortunately, even though the mastering is really good with plenty of dynamics and air, there are far too many pops and clicks for my liking on my copy. This ruins the experience during the quieter moments. In particular, the a cappella 'I Didn't Understand' is unlistenable with loud pops and crackle throughout. It's a shame as the sound quality is a significant step up from the CD. The label has admitted that these reissues are sourced from hi-res files so why not just release them and save everyone the hassle of having to deal with substandard pressings?

Bong Load very kindly agreed to replace mine and the new one sounds pretty much perfect with no fill errors. So if you've got a bad copy, return it - there are some good ones out there!

I don't know where Bong Load does their pressing, but they have a long history of quality issues. For the $36 sticker price, there is no justification for not using RTI or QRP. This just felt like a cash grab to me.

Same problem on my copy. I initially assumed it was surface noise caused by the irregular dye in the record - but could it be non-fill? It doesn't seem to happen between tracks and is often worst during loud passages. The vinyl is very thick which I know can make that problem more likely to occur. Couldn't see the telltale "beaded necklace" but it's hard to tell on coloured vinyl. Anyway, like the reviewer below says it's a shame as the mastering is really nice, and it's a beautiful package. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a black repress - for the meantime this is still a nice enough listen and beats the Plain issue from 2008 (though to be fair that coloured vinyl was whisper quiet).
