Although there is a 1986 date on the inserts and disc, that applies only to the LP release. The CD is listed in Schwann as an August 1987 release, and it does not appear in the catalog prior to that date.

I've been unable to find any evidence of a Japanese release of this title, let alone one with the US catalog number. Is this in fact a Japanese release? A pirate?

It's not a Japanese release or a 'pirate'. There were many CD's pressed for the US market for MCA with Japanese production on the disc only. Usually they state 'Made in Japan' somewhere on the disc,The submitter should have added photos of the disc. It is still considered a US release. Lee
