Notes
Quoted from sleeve note by Keith Smith, 1979: "Benny Waters was born in Maryland, U.S.A. in 1902 - a truly amazing fact when you hear him perform. His playing is exciting & totally un-dated, delivered with the attack & verve of a youthful athlete.
In his formative years Benny played with Charlie Johnson, King Oliver, Clarence Williams, Fletcher Henderson, Claude Hopkins & Jimmie Lunceford. He came to Europe in the 1950's with the Jimmy Archey Band & stayed. For the last eleven years he has been touring the continent as a solo artist.
I've heard Benny several times over the last ten years or so, most times the French or German backing groups were out of their depth, but Benny played well - really well!! Every time I pondered the thought - just how great would Benny play when backed by the "real thing"?
When Benny was in England last November I hired him, a recording studio & what I considered to be the "real thing". All the musicians were my unhesitatingly first choices & their performances & track record says it all.
All the titles we have used have a jump or blues feeling about them - hence the title of the album."
Recorded: 20 November 1978 at Porcupine Studios, Eltham, London.
