This album used to pop up in stores here and there over the last three years, and even though I am a fairly compulsive collector I still found it easy to resist. Finally it appeared dirt cheap in a second hand shop and I gave in to curiosity. Laserdance peaked in the early 1990s with some really good albums and kind of went downhill from there, so I had set my sights at a suitably low level. I had a fair idea of what to expect; cheesy synths and science fiction samples, and boy was I proven right. Still, most of the previous albums featured at least some decent songs to listen to, but this one just keeps running through my head without attaching itself anywhere. There is a disturbing lack of connection between the moody songtitles and the upbeat cheesy synths that flutter by high above the clouds. Laserdance is like Pioneer 10; when first launched it captured the images of tomorrowlands on distant worlds, now it is just a piece of dated technology rushing through space, it's signal too weak to pick up. Laserdance strikes out.
I believe it is a good album holistically! The album was released in 2000 so it does definitely sound different as the 90's are over so you cannot expect this album to sound the same way as it did in the early 90's!!!
In fact, this album was written not by Michiel Van Der Kuy, but buy some other guy. Probably, that's why it sounds less interesting than previous.By the way just few days a new album with original line-up is released. Really very similar to old Laserdance, maybe even a bit too much. I liked it much nonetheless heh. We need more old good Laserdance even though it all sounds the same.
