The organizers about this day: Now in it's second year, (CD) Record(able) Store Day is both a celebration of online musical communities and a genuine alternative to modern music-distribution models. The music industry is in turmoil, but it's never been easier to group together, create an event and connect with a like-minded audience. CD-R Day offers even the smallest label a platform to showcase their creativity to the world, while allowing the seasoned mainstays of the sub-underground a chance to circulate their limited edition releases to a wider audience.

The high costs of vinyl production and its resurgence in popularity has led to long delays at pressing plants and a greater risk of releases being overlooked or buried by the major labels' reissue schedules. The CD-R format combines the best of the digital and the physical worlds, allowing dynamic release schedules and a faster, more direct link between artist and audience. It's the ideal choice for fledgling producers and labels as it supports limited runs (including burn on demand), high quality sound, creative artwork options and lower postage costs.
