"This CD documents the first in a series of noize battle tournaments held on line at madamechao.com in the year 2001. 24 Kombatants representing the US, Canada, England, Czech Republic, Germany, New Zealand and China were matched against one another in 23 battles of 5 elimination rounds. MP3 files of "noize attacks" were posted, mixed, and remixed within the basic rules of play:

-Each kombatant has two turns per match, an ATTACK and a COUNTER. An attack is an original track - no greater than 1 minute (or 1 MB), made in an aggressive/abrasive style to confront a new opponent. A counter is no greater than 30 seconds and must contain and re-use some significant element of the initial attack. Attack tracks are posted simultaneously to an HTML match page by each fighter. Both players must respond to the attack in the form of a counter within 1 week.

After each attack is met with a counter strike, the round is closed and voting begins.

-Site visitors and kombatants may cast votes based on the style, execution and effective RE-USE of a sound byte or style by a fighter in response to his or her opponent's attack track. When the votes are tallied, match winners advance to the next round, while the losers are eliminated from the battle."
