Notes

℗ 1982 Sire Records Co.
Manufactured in the UK

Madonna's debut UK single release. Both versions were remixed by Rusty Egan (of Visage fame), though he is uncredited. These remixes are not the same as the mixes on the US release (nor the Canadian, French or Benelux releases).

This release never came in a picture sleeve, instead it is housed in a generic WEA sleeve, made from thick card with internal, tucked-in flaps and a side opening, unlike later generic WEA sleeves which are thin card with external wrap-over flaps and open at the top.

Some copies have a yellow sticker on the cover denoting them as 'Limited Edition 12" Single for the price of a 7" Single'.

Comments to album Madonna - Everybody
Still In Mind
The Rusty Egan remix of Madonna’s “Everybody” was an attempt by her record company to give the song a British electronic sound in the hope that it would have more appeal in the UK dance clubs. Unfortunately, it didn’t and the record company deleted the single only a month after its release. Madonna was not fond of his mix. Those UK mixes were only ever issued in the UK in 1982 and on the Spanish pressings of “Everybody” in 1983 but never saw the light of day again. In fact when “Everybody” was placed on the b-side of her later UK singles it only featured the more common US mix.
Akta
The 'Factory Club' was the Hacienda. It's been demolished now and replaced by apartments (inevitably). Interestingly, there are metal panels along the canal side portion that have the names of some of the artists that performed there die cut into them - Madonna (of course) being one of them. Footage of her performance (in front of bored looking Mancs!) was filmed and shown on the TV show "The Tube". She did "Holiday" and "Burning Up" - the second song choice being strange because it was never released as a single in the UK, whereas "Everybody" was.
Love Me
Not entirely true. Mark Kamins said Madonna's first promo tour to the UK in Feb 83 was a disaster and the crowds did not love her, though both Sounds and NME gave her favourable press. Madonna did indeed hate Egan's mix and refused to perform it, she even stated in press later that year that she did not like it and told Rusty he was a shit DJ. There is a press release from WEA from Jan 83 that talks about the upcoming release of Everybody in the UK, I believe the single was actually released in Feb 83 to coincide with her promo tour. Her third promo trip in October was much better recieved.

The Camden Palace and the Factory Club Manchester were THE Places to be accepted by the UK .If the DJs played the track and she did a PA it would get the press interested and start her off on her career. That was the aim. Like the Mix or not the UK Loved her The reviews loved her and the next single was welcomed and broke her career. The track may have been deleted from sale but it was played in all the clubs.

This features beautiful alternate U.K. remixes that take you back to the times of "Dub Disco". If you like the original U.S. Dub, then you will be in complete bliss with this rare slab of U.K. vinyl!
