Liner Notes:
BARBERSHOP SINGING began in New Orleans with the publishing of an ad in the newspaper by Joseph B. Wrenn requesting a meeting of men who "like to sing". On June 19, 1948 the first New Orleans Chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America was chartered. The group struggled to remain together but became inactive in 1953.
In 1956, the Chapter was rechartered under the name of the Crescent City Chapter through the efforts again of Joe Wrenn. Saul Schneider and Kelly Rand were the Musical Directors.
In 1965, another New Orleans group was organized under the leadership of Richard Gauthreaux called the "Riverside Chapter". Both chapters grew to over 70 members each. They sang throughout the city for many cultural, social, church and civic organizations, and with the New Orleans Symphony.
In 1977, the two chapters combined to form the "Greater New Orleans Chapter" housing the "Mardi Gras Chorus". The first President was Gray Robinson. The singing accomplishments so far include Division Championships in 1977 and 1978 and District Medalists Chorus both years. The "Wonderful Daze" Quartet are 1978 District Champions.
The Mardi Gras Chorus is indeed grateful to Einar Pedersen, a talented and loyal member who wrote two songs that appear on this album.
