Almost all of the productions here top class and Masta Ace's rhymes sharp and precise.

Interesting to consider that "Born to Roll" was effectively a remix seemingly intended for a larger audiences from the single off SlaughtaHouse, "Jeep Ass Niguh." The video for the song was constantly played on the music video pay-per-view station The Box, when it was a huge proponent of hyper-sexualized music videos that promoted hip-hop to new audiences, before the influence of the internet, usually playing songs from West Coast and Southern artists. The production had a distinctly East Coast version of G-Funk sounds that blew them up. Yet, despite, "Sittin' On Chome" being a similar sounding track, it never really seemed to take off the same way with mainstream radio. By 1994 Wu-Tang, Nas, Biggie and Mobb Deep were starting to come up on East Coast radio, and distinction between East and West coast hip-hop was becoming almost expected.

Surprisingly to some perhaps is that the rest of the album takes the "bass" sound and then connects to the group's underground East Coast roots. But we are made aware of where we are coming from with "Eastbound" while still giving us serious bass, and raw thumping drums. An appearance by insane underground lyricists The Cella Dwellas tells us something about the direction as can also be seen with "Da Answer" and it's rolling baseline. However, with "Da Terror" and the magnificent "U Can't Find Me" we hear this connection between the bass sound and deep, emotive yet cerebral, filtered East Coast sounding samples. Yes, "Turn It Up" resorts to an overused sample, but does what it needs to with the nice RnB vocal. Who cares? "The Phat Kat Ride" hits us with more proper 90s D.I.T.C.-like sounds that are too effective. This is legit hip-hop.

Does anyone know how to differentiate this between the 2010 repress http://www.discogs.com/Masta-Ace-Incorporated-Sittin-On-Chrome/release/2372522 ? Thank you.

Black vinyl re-issue of the 1995 album. Was re-issued (bootleged) on clear vinyl with the same cat# a couple of years later. The backcover says 1995 but it was reprinted in 2002. There're couple of obvious differencies to the 1st pressing. The black background is darker and the title "Sittin' On Chrome" is just in sand colour without outlines as on the first pressing. Besides of that the labelstickers on Side-A & Side-C are with black background while the 1st pressings have them all in sand colour.
