If you're not careful, Mercan Dede will SU you. But that's not a bad thing, considering the oud-based mellow chill of "Ab-ı Rû," while the sitar of "Ab-ı Lâ'l" gives an effect that comes off almost like a fairytale. Cut-up vocals make an appearance on "Ab-ı Zen," while the vocals by Susheela Raman on "Ab-ı Beka" will make you want to shimmy. Later, the layered vocals on "Ab-ı Beste" create a mesmerizing hum, though "Ab-ı Nâfi" would have benefitted from taking away the rap. But "Ab-ı Hazân" returns to the vocals to basics. Meanwhile, the stately clarinet on "Ab-ı Tarab" adds a nice touch, as does the swooning instrumentation of "Ab-ı Çeşm" and the spare, ghostly "Ab-ı Nâr." And ""Ab-ı Verd" closes the album on a gentle, meditative note. A blissful piece of work.
