Stoner rock? Hardly.
Morbo is more or less a combination of ultra high technical math rock with again ultra high technical bass aptitude that more likely remind me of Primus best. Granted, the three musicians are all talented, way exceeding the potential of simpler Stoner music, so if we give all that for granted then this could be Stoner rock but with a complete different sensibility, perhaps odd with the concept and the signification it may have in the minds of the people trying to catch the "groove".

The enigmatic italian trio is always a puzzle, yeah maybe in previous albums they had a more unfocused and decidedly more psychedelic tone in their music, but in here all those things were left behind. Morbo is a sharp and lucid album, describing patterns of rhythm that may well sound "math" like. Precise concatenations of bass slabs, concrete solid mingled drums and a guitar that follows rhythmically. You will not find any "groovy" stuff here, everything is rhythmical and almost robot like, metaphorically speaking, a dimension of squares being aligned in 1D groups as it progress, music for an advanced in the future Tetris or the soundtrack for the visit into quite another dimension, more plain and bleak.

So in a sense it is Stoner rock as it describes "something" that is strange enough to be called outer dimensional as i said before, but nothing more than that, nothing quite like colorful, "acid" like in the musical construction . As usual with the trio, they wander indeed not in between regions of the space-time continuum but they already pervaded another universe crossing frontiers with the bizarre and the uncanny. This time though the music is way more blasted and comprised. This is sheer logic, and way not bubble gum "trip".
