Liner notes state:
This is a translation into sound of the Labyrinth installations and ritual performance cycles presented by Metamorphic Ritual Theatre in Eostre 95, 97 (at Confest festivals) and 99 (at Earthcore). Our Labyrinths are interactive spaces in which initiates meet different mythological and mytho-illogical characters in different atmospheric environments as they wind their way through the maze, spiralling in to the centre where the night culminates in a final ritual performance before they are 'reborn' from this womb back into the rest of the festival.
The live music by Dweller on the Threshold and Mutation Parlour was a major aspect in creating the magickal atmosphere of these productions, and after the 97 weaving it was decided to create a CD translating the concepts and cycles of the performances into progressive soundscapes. Much of this CD was recorded ritually, jams in St Oeters Studio within invocational frameworks, cauldrons with fire or water (according to the elemental theme of the piece) providing atmosphere and also live elemental sounds which can be heard on the tracks. Then it was a gradual process of effecting, appending, and mixing and editing the abundance of potential material into the conceptual parameters of the journey. It was a challenge to apply the spiralling interactive energies of the Labyrinth into a linear journey, and it is hoped this material can eventually be expanded back into a Labyrinth CD Rom with video, stils and animation in an interactive format.
This CD is best when treated as a full initiatory journey rather than background listening. It relies heavily on stereo effects to represent the spatial environment of the Labyrinth, so having speakers far apart is recommended, Or for total immersion, put on a pair of headphones, close your eyes, breathe deeply and enter The Labyrinth...
