Comments to album Propeller Island - Hermeneutic Music
Insanity
To be honest, i own this Album for quite ome time and once in a while i stumble across it and think why do i have this? :) i have been trying to sell this record for about ten years now - but every time i pull it out to thin out my collection I give it a last chance - and i always find myself thinking "Wow, this record is quite amazing! i will never give it away!"
:)
So, i guess this record is really good - at least i like it a lot - and hey - i finally decided to keep it forever :)

One hardly hears anything about this album, even from aficionados of offbeat electronic music. And it is certainly offbeat. One might say it is ambient and here and there it does present a sort of Hearts of Space style music, but more often it reminds one of early academic bleep and twitter stuff. The next moment it sounds like a novelty record. I've listened to it many times and again and again l find myself surprised. I quite like it.

Album is divided into two major parts. First part (tracks 1-7) contains mainly more conventional ambient interrupted by short sound collages and Lars' live improvisation on piano on track 4. Personally this was one of the first touches to real ambient music where time seems to stand still and music creates static enviromental state. 6th track, "Hope", is very soothing, relaxing and semimelodic ambient with classical feeling, 2nd track has a static rhytmic element which always reminds me of a train. 5th track is just what the name says, recorded sounds of some eastern countries, processed and sampled.
Second part of the album (tracks 8-18) is an attempt to describe feelings of a conscious machine. Sounds are quite sharp and bright, themes and ideas are somewhat logical but the overall feeling is left slightly thin, especially compared to later Propeller Island albums from 1990's.
