Remi Mazet - Safran FLAC

A very solid second release for such a new record label! It’s more a mini LP too than ‘just’ an EP. Rémi Mazet gracefully escapes the trap of a one-genre record and gives a full spectrum of his influences :- ‘Intro’ opens up side A like a velvet curtain onto a mysterious show; voices are shaping up the atmosphere, random samples and mysterious sounds..-‘Safran’ is true to his name and spices up the sonic space. Laid back drums, moody Rhodes, exotic instruments , and African chants put the listener into a state of conscious relaxation. Like floating in the air, one feels a cloud of smoke draping his arms around his neck- ‘Jazz E’ brings back the audience into more indentified territories of the dancefloor. Very detroit-esque the tune build up nicely, a conversation starts between a live saxophone and a metallic bassline while in the background a drum machine puts up the foundations- On the flip side, ‘Shrine’ is a straight up four-to-the-floor tune , groovy, sweaty, infectious and deep. Very deep.- ‘Jammin’ like his name suggests it, is a discussion between two friends and music lovers. The result is an hybrid object, half way to the dancefloor, half way to the bedroom, using many samples sounds, voices and again various classic drum machines sonorities- ‘Outimb’ is perhaps the most organic track from the record, using natural percussions, drums sounds and dreamy synths. It’s a tune to play in the middle of the night, while watching the stars

Well put. Incredible record. Stays away from trendy cliches yet sounds totally contemporary and fresh. Really solid songs and vibe.
