Credit where it's due,with northern exposure,as with renaissance,Sasha and Digweed captured a set of tracks that represent history itself.In response to one of the comments below,there was no particular mix designated to either Sasha or Digweed individually.as in the case of renaissance it was all done digitally.no doubt,they selected the tracks and experimented with what would have the maximum impact to the listener but obviously that which was unachievable by simply mixing two records together.they did what any of us would have done had we access to the technology,and,make no mistake,they did it very well.

Agreed. I've also seen Sasha play Plan 94 at a peak point of the evening (2004 Renaissance Wild..)

The sticker says 22 tracks but the track list lists just 14... Can anyone comment?

Probably an error, the original 2xCD had a '22 tracks' sticker, so they probably just forgot when manufacturing the vinyl.

What the hell happened to these DJ's choice of music .I was always amazed and enchanted by their fantastic tune selection in the mid ninties.Their neurons and synapses must have stopped firing after that because this is perhaps their greatest work.Best tracks anyway are these IMPOGod Within Raincry (Spiritual Thirst)Future Sound Of London, The Cascade (Part 1)Humate / Rabbit In The Moon East (The Opium Den Mix)Banco De Gaia Heliopolis (Eedupolis Dog Mix)so just get your coppers pennies dollars Euros pounds out and please buy these tracks and play to your listenersThey really transcend mundane reality :)

I agree, their selection now a days sucks balls. This stuff is magic and pure love.

First and foremost EVERY sasha & digweed, prog house fan must own this vinyl selection, its a slice of history and a sad reminder just how far ahead of its time this album was on its release, the only problem i have is that banco de gaia - last train to Lhasa is way too slow, and as someone else pointed out i think digweed played this on 45 and pitched it down but i still find it hard to mix. Im not going to go over the tracks one by one as im sure this has been covered in the previous comments, however, I would like to comment on the repress which alot of people seem to commenting on. I brought my copy of this from hard to find records in 2006 for £40, when i asked "is this a repress/white label copy" they vehemently told me no its the original...bollox!!...i thought id got a bargain. Firstly, the stickers around the rings of the vinyl have cracks in them [i will upload a photo to show this] which when you run your finger over them you cant feel them which tells me they have been copied. Secondly, im not entirely certain about the outer cover, this feels like a copy aswell but cannot really tell having never had the original. However, the actual press of the vinyls is good, some are a bit crackly in places [especially the start of some of the tracks which makes me think again these were copied from the original, the crackling is particular bad i noticed during the piano break in William orbit - water from a vine leaf] but they mix fine. if anyone else can shed any further light on what ive discussed above i would be glad to hear from you.

Sooner have all these tracks individually (which i have ????) than this release, expecially at the price it goes for.

Don’t worry about it, the way it’s going all pressings of this will be worth money soon. I got the same as you which I use a lot. Glad mine isn’t original cos I have rattled it

its a bootleg. was reissued in 2004 and HTFR had them first. if they told u that its original then they should be shot.no compasses on north records, the cover font is too close to the edge, the colors of the cover are slightly different.

hear, hear, dance music finder...use to always send you the wrong disc of hooj choons releases, pete lazonby - sacred cycles they'd send the disc without the quivver mix, lustral - everytime - surprise surprise you wouldn't get the nalin and kane mix...the lists endless, use to offer a refund aslong as you paid the postage, so you paid for their mistakes!!... and the pricing format on the website was horrendous, listing the same record twice at different prices and always listing records they didn't have.Hard to find...dont get me started, how theyve stayed in business amazes me, listing their second hand records as very good (+) when your receive them they look like theyve been used as frisbees down the local park! the only good thing was that they had no one knowledgeable there on hard trance so you could pick up the odd hard trance rarity for peanuts, every cloud i guess ;)

I have 2 copies of this,Now i am unsure as I can't find on here about a Re-press but i have read there are some.(bootleg or real repress) My old copy has a black sticker saying 22 tracks unmixedMy other copy does not and it has a bigger print so the fount and images are larger.The "W" of the symbol on the front is very close to the spine,"7pm" is in the bottom right at the backwhere on the old its up more.Also if you know your print you can tell its a scan of the original art work.not the best The north part of the vinyl set does not have the white compass in the background. but the south part does, also the print is finer too on both setsmy old copies has the white compass on both setsThe vinyl quality and sound are like any other All Good. I just would like to know more about this if its a re-press or if its a bootleg only a few where done from what i could find out but not much more detail on it.

I own the original press - i know as its was bought from Oxford St HMV the day the mix came out - I have also had a copy of the bootleg (as a year later these were selling for £150 - so no wonder someone bootied it). All I can say is that the booty pic cover and sleeve look they were copied from a scanned original, it just doesnt look right, the covers are darker and the artwork just not as clear. The press was actually ok but its still a booty! So watch out for copies that are selling nowadays.

Picked up my copy at a now defunct record store in Melbourne called Rythem & Sound just of Bourke street back in 02/03. They claimed it was the original. Only years later did I realise it was a bootleg. But to be honest the quality is still good. Can not compare as I have never listened to the OG press. Still happy to have a copy.

The 4xLP was bootlegged around 2001/2002. The cover of the bootleg version IS slightly different. You can definitely see the scan print lines in the artwork and the differences that you noted are clear to anyone who has seen both versions. The printing on the spine of the sleeve is slightly tilted and isn't as crisp and the original version. The vinyls of the bootleg are of lower quality (gram weight) and the labels have some variations from the original version(s) - as you noted. The scanned cover artwork is a clear indication that this was not a licensed repressing. Also ... I think I remember the listing on the distributors list mentioning that the new version was coming from Australia, NOT the UK. I hope that helps you figure out some of your questions about the legitimacy of the newer version.

I echo the thoughts of the previous reviewer who commented on the absolutely masterful transition between "Raincry" and "Out of Body Experience". That's mixing at its best. This CD is one of the most timeless releases in the history of dance music, period. It demonstrates great track selection, incorporating progressive house/trance classics from a variety of artists. In almost every Sasha/Digweed mix, I vastly prefer the mix that was done by Sasha, and this CD is no exception. Supposedly the first disc was done by Sasha, and the first disc is the one that takes the cake.

I was fortunate enough to see "Delusions of Grandeur Live"...two shows only...San Fran & Tampa for the 20th anniversary of that album. Neither DJ actually "mixed" records together on either of these CD's, that was done in Pro-Tools by an engineer, but S&D both compiled the album contents and set out the programming/ running order. It's physically impossible to mix these tracks together like they have done on the CD's, only a computer can do that I'm afraid. but still an amazing album regardless of how it was put together.

Any fan of Sasha and Digweed and really any fan of the early dance music scene should be looking into adding this to their collection. Virtually every track on here is a timeless classic. Still sounds timeless to me to this day.

I dont know if anyone's aware but Rabbit in the moon's out of body experience is another one of those tracks where the remix artist takes all the credit and the original composer gets none. The track is a remix of Tori Amos' Precious Things, but as they did with Sara McLachlan's Possession the end remix has an entirely different feel. but in this case the piano line and of course vocal is straight from tori.

A note for collectors of Northern Exposure tracks: this release does not match the 2xCD set exactly. "Kites" and "Raincry" appear here in different mixes than the ones featured on the 2xCD. In addition, the tracks "I'm Free" and "The Gloom" have only one mix featured here, but on the 2xCD, two different mixes of these tracks are used back-to-back. Nonetheless, this is a wicked fun package.
