Comments to album Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream

One of the best sound records in my collection, very nice dyanamic range
olgasmile
After purchasing both Gish and Mellon Collie I was happy with the remaster. Sadly I was let down with my copy of this. Side C and D played well.. I noticed a few crackles on Side A and didn't think much of it then looked up and noticed the disc was badly warped... luckily got a refund... when a record isn't cheap you expect more... problem with gatefolds these days. More likely to be warped..

Sounds almost perfect. The master itself is gorgeous and easily one of the best remasters I've heard in a while. The master itself is extremely clear and bassy, each of the individual instruments are perfectly clear sounding and has a larger amount of depth compared to the original CD that I have. The only problem I've had is that side A has a continuous crackle through side A. I might return this in exchange for another copy as it seems it requires a bit of luck to get a perfect copy.

The first copy I bought had some sort of material embedded in the vinyl. So I know kinda what people are talking about with poor pressings. I hated returning it to my local brick & mortar shop because I know its a bit of a hit for them (especially with what the price is up to for this issue these days - 39.99). But they're super cool, one of the best little record stores on the planet!!! Anyway, they exchanged for another copy. It's super clean. And this reissue sounds great to me! I wanted to hold out for a first pressing, not for the marble vinyl (really not a big fan of colored vinyl) but as sill as it might sound to some, but I just don't like what they did with the colors on the *cover* of this reissue. It's packaged a bit too tight for all that comes inside and it's slightly overpriced. But if it's all (or at least mostly) about the sound and not aesthetics, this is a great buy. If you're a fan of SP, and especially this album, get it before the price goes up again.
Hudora
My copy is a tad noisy on sides A/B, sides C/D are ok. Fair amount of pops and background hiss, but overall it's acceptable.. and I'm pretty picky. The mastering is superb, much more clarity and dynamics than the CD. The print quality is excellent IMO but you're right, there's not enough play in the jacket to fit the discs. I store them outside the jacket in a polyprop cover. Judging from the comments it's a bit of pot luck scoring a quieter copy.
Risinal
But it's still NOT dead quiet vinyl. The mastering is pretty good (for an analog source transferred to 24/96 and then back to an analog format in this digital age) but this pressing does leave something to be desired.
Amis
If you decide to give the album a shot, my personal favorites: Soma and Mayonaise. They're all great of course (but particularly those).
Flathan
I paid 48.99 for this and the sound quality is great, nice and clean and open sounding. Happy with purchase.
Dellevar
Audio quality is on point. I bought the original CD on it's release day in 1993 and I always thought it sounded boxed in and compressed. The songs have not been set free on this Vinyl release. I found this in a record store for $32.99, I wouldn't pay any more than that for it despite how great it is.
Not-the-Same
There are 2 similar inner lyric sleeves in mine... quality control wake up!
Shaktiktilar
I am glad I bought this album a couple years ago brand new for only 35 bucks retail. Now this album is pushing $60.00!! WT%! C'mon people! Greed is starting to kill this hobby I still love somehow. Awesome re-master though. One of the best "newer" albums I own! Thanks Billy!
Detenta
Retail price is one thing, but on the collector market it's like anything else. Supply and demand. There's only one first pressing of everything, and stuff from 1990-2010 can be extremely rare.
Kage
Same, bought for $28 brand new retail! Then it went out of stock at most places for a little while...and then when it eventually came back the retail price jumped to nearly $50. Crazy.
Garr
What’s up with the price on this??? Brand new list price from label is $48.99. I know this was in the 30s not too long ago.
Skunk Black
yeah it's about that same price as well at my local indie store. I got this reissue back when it first came out as a gift and I assume it was the same then. Of course that was about seven years ago and the prices on vinyl are higher these days. Also there could be the issue of the number of reprints...
Vishura
Probably I had bad luck on this album. Extremely compressed, terrible dynamics, everything SUCKS! Reading the other reviews, the only conclusion is it's a defective press!
Mbon
100% same issue here. I was thinking my setup must be completely f'd, I was expecting this to be super clean sounding. Static all the way through.
Fast Lovebird
I ear some of the same but it is still nice my friend :)
Nikok
While no serious issues with pops and clicks and such, comparing Mayonaise for example, it just sounds so much clearer and layered on the remastered CD compared to the vinyl.
Thorgaginn
I ended up cleaning this record a few times. Cleaned my needle. Hit the album with the zerostat. I can confirm that there seems to be a constant underline of static noise throughout. it was so bad that I was second guessing my set up. Threw one of my cramps albums on. Perfectly clean. No floor noise.
Gietadia
Same here...surface noise, high-ends suck. Not happy with it...and the price was ridicously high and now i get this :/
Buzatus
Hi friend, I have the same opinion about my copy
Budar
Incredible sounding pressing. The dynamics are unreal, the guitars and drums just tear right through. Jimmy's kit sounds incredible. One of the very best sounding pressings I own, which includes a fair number of MoFi.
Vushura
This is a fantastic reissue.... artwork, presssing, everthing. They really put some heart doing this.
Sarin
I actually prefer the 1993 USA Caroline (orange-ish pink) pressing I have over this reissue. I thought that this reissue squashed some of the dynamics out of the original and pushed up the volume a bit.
Karg
I always appreciate when someone takes the time to compare original pressings with reissues. Don't know why anyone would troll someone who takes the time to do so. Thanks for the info!
Marelyne
Is this more of a brag that you own an original pressing or that the re-issue substandard?
mym Ђудęm ęгσ НuK
Just bought the album and man oh man what a great reissue! It sounds way much better than the original CD. I got the original Gish album on vinyl. But after hearing Siamese Dream I'm going the reissue version.
Llanonte
Totally agree man! I got this one and the reissue of Gish; both classics in my opinion.
Hellblade
This RI much like Gish is stellar. Heavy record and nice artwork. Worth the price of admission.
Bys
had to buy a second copy because the first one had lp-1 on both disks
Galanjov
Good to hear that it wasn't just me! I've been wondering
Kezan
Wowhd.com still sells copies for 39 euros, shipping included! Got mine today.
Anarasida
Got my copy these days "Virgin ‎– 50999 67928 9 10"I have a prob with the very last track disc2 side2 "Luna" Sounds like you have dirt on your needle, noisy, but there is no dirt. played with different needles. still the same. does anyone have that prob?cheers. Patrick
Biaemi
Hi, I bought my copy 2 days ago from Mojo records in Sydney Australia. My copy has the same number as yours Virgin 5099967928910. Yes, the last track on side 2 of record 2 ''Luna'' has blurry sound. Also the last track on side 1 of record 2 ''Spaceboy'' sounds a bit indistinct. Most of the record sounds ok, but it is disappointing to buy a 180gm record with these kinds of defects. 180gm is no guarantee of superior sound quality. I just thought I'd let you know that you are not the only person who bought a sub-standard copy. Regards, Ken.
Jugore
Finely picked this up sounds great far better than the first press in every way.
Uanabimo
Before I purchase I was just wondering if it will get to my address by Christmas? It won't show me the expected arrival date.
energy breath
My copy doesn't have the same artwork on the back sleeve as the one pictured. It's a picture of the girl from a low angle and with half of her head out of frame. Also, it has no barcode.
Getaianne
The barcode and the back artwork/song list should have come on a separate sheet of paper.
Nuadazius
Track listings, barcode and other info are printed on a additional single sided sheet. I have now uploaded the actual image of the rear sleeve.
Endieyab
Repress is great, got a fresh copy of it today. Bass seems heavy but doesn't interfere with levels or nuances in the sound. I suppose this is just how the recording sounds. Pressed on-center (rare these days unfortunately), dead wax has lots of hand etching with good info. All around fantastic album and packaging, from the new foil cover to the paper/poly inner sleeves to the picture sleeves.
Peles
The outer edge of my disc1 is flat and an eighth inch thick on one side. Rotate about 180 degrees and that edge is nice and sharp. No issues with the sound quality but the pressing quality is a little disappointing.
ME
Also find this a great press for the most part, but some of the bass overwhelms my system like no other record I have... the kick drum on a couple tracks has a tendency to push into distortion. None of my other vinyl does this :/. Am I the only one that gets this? A pressing issue? Or maybe they have mastered to the limits of what a record can handle?
Modifyn
Mine is ridiculously bass heavy as well. Wasn't able to crank it up though. Maybe at some point it evens out.
Kanek
This repress sounds amazing. I was a college freshman when this hit, so I've heard it literally hundreds of times. Listening to the detail of this reissue is impressive.
Stylish Monkey
Mine came with 2 copies of A/B which sucks
Voodoozragore
mine came with 2 copies of C/D. Wanna trade?
Daiktilar
bad luck brian right here.
Mazuzahn
This repress is great. Sound is fantastic, and the remastering is true to the original. The packaging is awesome. Thick heavy-duty jacket and comes with printed sleeves as well as static free. I don't know if I'm a huge fan of the alternate artwork, but whatever. Couldn't ask for more.
Thorgahuginn
Amazing repress compared to some. One key thing that made this repress excellent for me was the cover art is not touched. (No labels, UPC codes etc on the back, no title on the front.) Comes with good inner sleeves as well as designed with lyrics on the back ones that are rather thick.
Gavigamand
Pretty impressive, no issues with the press. The remastering adds another dimension to this great album. 5 stars!
Mr.mclav
anyone's copy warped?
Xirmiu
Surprisingly good repress. I would recommend.
