This was indeed approved by the band - they regard it as an "official bootleg," similar to a few other SY releases floating around from the early days. It's possible that when they signed to a major label in the '90s they were pressured to aver otherwise, but if a band authorizes something at the time of its release, given the handshake-deal elements involved, it's legally dubious that it can subsequently make a copyright claim. In fact, I interviewed the band a little while after the LP came out - obtained autographs of each member on the sleeve - and they told me directly that they approved of it and loved it.

You can hear one of the tracks left off Walls Have Ears "I Love Her All The Time" on Various - Impact! (Auto·Edit).I saw Walls Have Ears in HMV when it was released but, rather stupidly, passed it by.

Bought mine in Virgin - still has the price sticker. It's the unnumbered version but otherwise identical to the numbered version with same matrix numbers. I don't understand why the numbered version can be sold here but not the unnumbered version which comes from the same stampers. Either both can be sold legally or neither.

I was at the ULU gig, and it was a great set, and then they went into "Expressway To Yr. Skull" and we all lost our minds.

This "partially unofficial" release was in fact sanctioned by the band themselves. I discussed this issue with the band back-stage 29-09-1988, where my copy was fully autograhed and includes a message by Kim Gordon saying: "Happy Pumpy Forever". The inner sleeve designs are by one of their preferred artists Savage Pencil. I can add scans/pictures of those if required.

This is a really transcendental recording which includes a recording of what was a particularly transcendental concert (for me). I always have found SY gigs to be extrememly varied (i've seen them at least a dozen times since 1982 or so) and I've seen a few that did not work out so well. It's the byproduct of the amount of improvisation that occurs on stage. The ULU gig was, for me, the introduction to the (then) new "melodic" SY and when they launched into "Expressway to Your Skull" lights well flashing behind my eyelids. This gig really changed my life and the recording and packaging of this LP is superlative, I'd have to give it a 6-out-of-5, but it maybe the flashback effect is clouding my judgement).
