I've got a question for anyone who can give me an answer about this album. First, let me say that SPONGE was a surprisingly refreshing new band when they got their 1s airplay on the local radio. The obvious songs which come to mind are "Plowed","Rotting Pinata" & my personal favorite on this debut album... "Molly". Now, shortly after this debut album came out, I had the chance to pick up a 2nd copy on CD for super cheap, so I did. Well sometime after that, hard times fell upon me I had to sell some of my music collection for income & 1 of the 2 copies of this album got sold. I kept the newer unopened copy and eventually opened it & listened to it. But my fabvorite track "Molly" sounded different. It wasn't my ears going bad. It wasn't my over active imagination. The song was different. It was sung different. Can anyone back me up on this & more importantly, explain to me why this is? Not that the newer version is terrible or anything like that, but the first version was better in my opinion & it's been so long now, I can't remember how the first version was sung. Can anyone help me out and shed some light on this puzzling delema?
Wow! Thanks for the reply. Although it's only been just over 6 months since my question was posted, it seems like years ago, or at least 1 year!! I appreciate yourreply which sounds pretty convincing. I know that many many bands have songs which are edited & remixed & even re-recorded for such radio mixes. And i guessit's for the best for the bands & stations and all who're involved. But sometimes it just doesn't sit well with the fans. I knew I wasn't hearing things & going crazy. Well, I am going crazy, but for other reasons too numerous to list here!! lol I appreciate your reply. It makes sense. Even when sometimes the remixes don't. Later.PS - If you or anyone who reads this has a copy of one of the original first pressings and/or releases of this disc & would part with it for a few bucks, let me know. You can contact me through here. But you have to convince me that it is an original first pressing/release with the original 1st version of the song "Molly". How you are going to do that remains to be seen though. Later.
You're not crazy. The radio single version was different than the early album version due to a re-mix after the single broke. The biggest difference is noticeable during the vocal-only break which is mixed MUCH quieter on the original album version, but there are other differences as well. I don't know whether early release CDs had one mix vs the other, but this remix sounds like what you're referring to.
