allegro

One of Steve's releases that I come back to frequently. It's what I consider this be a pinnacle of Roach's work. Spacious and mysteriously tones with layer upon layer of synthesizers. Brief earthly moments midway succumb to shadowy & yes, mystic tones.. though the light shines in as well. The long form spacious float of Piece Of Infinity closes out this masterwork. The four disc/complete edition with the important third disc 'Recent Future' is a stimulating, expansive odyssey.

Easily one of the top 5 ambient releases of the decade. Discs 1 and 4 are nearly flawless, Disc 2 is just a slight notch below, and Disc 3, while the weakest, is still quite good. Some Roach fans may be put off by the relative accessibility of this compared to say, A Deeper Silence, and by some of the relatively short track times. These are virtual non-issues in my book. I don't like the term "must listen" (how often do you see that and hear something disappointing?) but I would strongly recommend it.
