Comparing to an Sundazeds Kevin Gray cut ( https://www.discogs.com/Strawberry-Alarm-Clock-Wake-UpIts-Tomorrow/release/13069840 ):
Side 1 was my main focus for this and to encapsulate the findings in a short manner you could say that the original has more harmonic detail and life to the sound while the reissue is more accurate.
What I mean is that tracks like the opener Nightmare Of Percussions first drum hits feel somewhat more real and projected on the reissue while the originals is more muffled and clumsy.
Right after you should analyze how the vocals sound quite clean yet flat on Kevins cut while much more echo filled and transparent in the US press.
However also noteworthy is the simultaneously more raw edge of the original with Sibilant moments and such.
And thats pretty much how it goes, Sundazeds version has better instrument separation, clarity and mastery overall while the original has more extracted from the tape yet comes across as less proficient with it.
Its like one version given the best source and gear but with less time and talent to produce it and the other given a worse quality source but was produced better. Which comes out ontop is a complete preference question but I might guess that the better the playback system the less these drawbacks for the original might matter and for a worse system the reissue might seem indistinguishable except for its positives over the US.
I would choose a nice original if I had to though.

Very oddly sequenced LP. Only in 1968 would a band fresh off a #1 hit start their next LP with a drugged out, formless tone poem like "Nightmare of Percussion." The rest is enjoyable cheesy psych pop with maximum period flavor.
