The Pop Rivets - Laughing At You FLAC

This record is a bit of a miracle, so here you get two unreleased tunes by the legendary Pop Rivets. Both tunes been recorded at the Oakwood Studios, as a part of their LP session (Empty Sounds From Anarchy Ranch), but never saw the light of day. I case that the label decided to use two live tracks. Well, if early 80's Garage, Trash or whatever you call it, never was your playground. The Pop Rivets changed into The Milkshakes not long after those recordings been cut. To cut the very long story short. Both tracks seemed lost, till today. Squoodge Records (a real partner in crime with Billy Childish) done an ace job here. Really cool inside- out cardboard sleeve. Just simple letter-print artwork, so less is more sometimes!!! Soundwise you hear the Pop Rivets in full swing. Still with a cool Punk edge, but also the first signs of the Milkshakes on the horizon. “Laughing At You” really comes along with a Johnny Rotten attitude, specially at the end of the tune. Top stuff. B-Side (“Song Song”) is not that rough and if the sound should be a more “clearer” it easily could be an early midtempo Tempole Tudor tune, without being copycats. Well, maybe it was typical U.K. underground guitarsound of the time, which makes all these bands sounding simply cool. Even when the B-Side deliver a much slower song, I dig it much better. A great song!! Really cool 45' and really nice that those “lost” songs found heir way on a vinyl after three decades.

Having just published the long believed to be lost Peel Sessions, Squoodge Records now releases two previously undisclosed studio outtakes from Wild Billy Childish’s first band Pop Rivets that probably no one knew ever existed.
„Laughing at You“ and „Song Song“ were produced by the Pop Rivets in Graham Quinton-Jones’ Oakwood Studios during the sessions for the LP “Empty Sounds from Anarchy Ranch”, but were dismissed on the final LP instead of two live recordings of their previous tour.
Still relying on the punk sound of the Pop Rivets, the production of both songs goes beyond the rough sound of the previous releases and provides an outlook of the development Russ Wilkins, Bruce Brand and Wild Billy Childish would take as The Milkshakes after drummer L’il Russ Lax left the band unexpectedly.
This single is a studio document of the transition period from the Pop Rivets to The Milkshakes and an essential addition for every collector of the Medway Sound.
