Isn't "Works In Progress" a compilation (of outtakes) just like "The Dream Belongs To Me (Rare And Unreleased Recordings 1968/1973)"?

The words `barrel' and `scraping' might well cross the minds of TB completists when they read about this album, especially as two of the tracks (`Dream Letter' and `Sing a Song For You') are readily available on `Happy Sad', albeit remixed here. However, even after discounting these and the instrumental version of `Phantasmagoria in Two', there remain over 55 minutes of Tim's music unavailable elsewhere, including studio versions of `Wayfaring Stranger' and `Hi Lily Hi Lo', previously available only as live recordings. Most song titles will be familiar from his back catalogue, but here there are variations in rhythm, tempo and, of course, lyrics: "I'm as puzzled as the oyster"! What was he thinking? In particular, there are 16 minutes of development on what would eventually become Tim's masterpiece from the `Happy Sad' album: `Love From Room 108 at the Islander (on Pacific Highway)'. However, this CD is worth it for just one track alone: the completely new `Father Song'. If the lyric is in any way autobiographical, then it goes some way to explain how Tim could walk out on his own baby son Jeff. Harrowing, but utterly compelling, and not a dry eye in the house.
