Notes

Tool's demo only released on cassette by the band.
4 track demos (according to the Official Tool discography site.)

72826 comes from the word SATAN spelled on a landline telephone keypad.
(The above statement is confirmed in the 2016 M. J. Keenan biography "A perfect union of contrary things" (Backbeat Books) p. 160. Further more the biography notes a selling price of 6$ for the cassette.)

Sadly, I used to own this many years ago but got rid of it.

I see them on eBay all the time. Nowadays, almost never less than $1000. Something I would love to add to my collection, but not for that much.

On the subject matter of the tracks this tape houses, it's all just rough. I listened to flac files of the songs, and it's not that enjoyable. Given the low-tech equipment used, and no label to fund from something better, the quality just isn't there. Don't get me wrong It's beautiful listening to what created a true legacy, but more than that it's better keeping in a safe place. As a loyal tool fan since I first heard Stinkfist from AEnima, coming so far with a second band, and a third group that focus primarily on Maynards' magic.

They are also all in Mono, the hiss is atrocious and high frequencies are low. The music is good, though!

From what I've heard, it's anywhere from 200 to possibly 1000. I saw a used copy sell for about 400 on ebay, after which a good amount popped up, with non reaching said amount. I was fortunate to snag a sealed copy for I think 180, which hurt at first to be honest.Regardless of how many were made or released to the public, since showing up in 91, who knows how many survived the journey of time. So now might be the best time to get a copy. With the market flooded, that is.

I have a copy of this cassette, I dont have the cassette artwork sleeve though because Adam from Tool just handed me the tape, no case no artwork, years ago when we used hang out. I was in a band with Steve Hansgen who produced this demo, so we all used to hang out together.
Opilar
The entire Wikipedia page on this cassette is missing. ? I made it With Steve.. I might have to upload all my knowledge about this cassette to this site to preserve the history.

---ATTENTION Collectors--- I have noticed CD versions of this showing up on online auction sites, etc. BE AWARE that all CD versions are unofficial bootlegs. It's unfortunate as some are paying $100+ for a bootleg. Here's to hoping this comment at least helps someone not waste their hard earned money on a bootleg. Cassette is the ONLY way this was released, no CD, no vinyl, just tape.

Does anyone have any more info on this release? Specifically, how many copies were made? And how much is this release worth now?Any info would be much appreciated!
Iell
1500 were made by a company called Richman Brothers in New Jersey
Eng.Men
The latest info I got on the quantity is around 1500 copies were made. The source is reliable.

There was a rumor going around for a while (on a few Tool fan sites) that there's anywhere from 200-300 copies of the tape. All CD versions are bootlegs, avoid them at all costs. As to what it's worth....there's no definite answer to that question. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In the past I have seen it go for anywhere between $75 and $300 on online auctions so that's a ballpark figure. I have seen it sell for $200, more recently, on 3 different online auctions.

I watched a copy sell for about $300 on ebay a few years ago. I stopped considering a bid after it hit $120.
