Found this recently while record shopping in Austin. Brand new three disk set. Mine were colored wax. The sound is almost exactly like the sound from the CD version leading me to believe that this was 'mastered' from that. The third disk just sort of sits in the middle of the gatefold. The printing quality is pretty good. The strangest thing for me was that they stretched the original LP over two separate disks. It would've been nice to have it all on one. A good buy IMHO thanks to all the bonus material.

Received a copy that is non-colored vinyl, all 3 plates are standard black.

Same here. I wonder if there's any difference between the two? Mine sounds great, though.

The sound quality is without a doubt inferior to the original pressing. Also, the colors on the sleeve are somewhat less vibrant. The "demos" are strange as well. The demo for All in the Mind is actually the song "Open Your Eyes (It's Worth It)" and the demo for One Way To Go is "The Higher I Go".

This 3LP version is a bootleg that the band knew nothing about - hence the presence of those bloody awful demos.

TxAzure, hiIs the sound quality really bad? Fin

Got mine off of Ebay, it is a noisy, noisy, noisy pressing. Not terribly happy with it. This Disogs entry showed up not long after I bought it. If it been there before I probably wouldn't have bought it.

Yes there can be no doubt it's a bootleg, it's not listed at either HMV Japan or Amazon Japan and Brian Cannon who designed the artwork for Storm, Northern Soul and several Oasis releases also thinks it's a bootleg and not his original artwork. Steer clear, save your money and enjoy the CD until they do an all analogue 45rpm 2LP pressing from the UK for a future RSD. (fingers crossed, Si and Nick both said on Facebook that deluxe editions of the catalogue will come out at some point)

Thanks a lot for your replies guys! I just placed an order for this. Hopefully "A Northern Soul" is also "reissued" by this japanese company soon.

The difference in the jacket is that the original one has a varnish on it and this looks like a matte finish, hence the less vibrant look. The original is great sounding but it does not have the base response that this record has, which is a nice surprise. I think the record does not sound inferior, the lever is just lower, you need turn it up. The stereo image is very similar to the original. It is colored vinyl so that does not help the sound at all. The Demos are nice as well, and great overall package. If you are fan of The Verve then you buy it. The original is the original, just like my original Joy Division "Closer" does not sound the same as the Rhino reissue which they cut from original master tapes. The A/B test was done using a Technics 1200 with Dynavector 10X5 Cartridge and Manley amp.

For what you get, I'd say yes. If you don't want to spend the price of a kidney for an original copy, this is a fine substitute.

Hi, is it worth the $40? I'm guessing it's a japan pressed bootleg probably sourced from cd?
