In Písmenková láska, there’s a line which for me precisely describes the gloomy atmosphere behind the Iron Curtain in the 1970s:
“Větrník se točí, dítě se směje, v úsměvech lidí nacházíš stopy beznaděje.”
“A pinwheel is turning, a child is laughing, in people’s smiling faces you’re spotting traces of despair.”
In 1975, I was one of those “laughing childs”, but retrospectively I still feel those “traces of despair” on people’s faces back then.
